Every now and then, a Mac user is going to say, 'Man I wish there was a version of (insert program here) for Mac. I'd buy that in a heartbeat.' It's happened to me more times that I really wish to count. Thankfully, most of the apps I want to run on my Mac exist as native apps.

Its an environment where Windows programs can run in peace. In this bottle you install your games (or other programs), when the install has finished CrossOver will configure the application so it can correctly interface between Mac and the Windows bottle. CrossOver has two versions of it app, a normal one and one for games. Aug 04, 2016  CrossOver 15 for Mac and Linux helps you run your favorite Windows games and apps on OS X and Linux computers. No more dual booting, no purchasing of Windows license, nada. Its an environment where Windows programs can run in peace. In this bottle you install your games (or other programs), when the install has finished CrossOver will configure the application so it can correctly interface between Mac and the Windows bottle. CrossOver has two versions of it. Sep 11, 2019  Download CrossOver Games 13.2.0. Enjoy the main PC games on Mac. Based on Wine, CrossOver Games is a tool for Mac specialized in the virtualization of games created for the Windows operating system that do not have a version for OS X. Titles like Spore, Portal, World of Warcraft, Eve Online, Guild Wars. Sep 05, 2018  Install Windows apps directly with CrossOver and use a Windows app like any other native Mac App; There are advantages and disadvantages to each, but that last one – installing Windows apps directly under CrossOver – is a bit different, and it offers some distinct advantages if.

However, there are a couple that slip through my fingers, like Microsoft's Visio Professional. It doesn't exist on the Mac side and I really need it for my day job as a software quality vice president.

Thankfully, there's more than one way to run Windows apps on your Mac.

  1. You can use Apple's Boot Camp and run a full installation of Window natively on your Mac
  2. Use a virtual machine like Parallels Desktop
  3. Install Windows apps directly with CrossOver and use a Windows app like any other native Mac App

There are advantages and disadvantages to each, but that last one – installing Windows apps directly under CrossOver – is a bit different, and it offers some distinct advantages if you know how to get things going.

With CrossOver, you don't install Windows and then the app. It's all about the app, and only the app. Thankfully, while CrossOver is different, it's not difficult to use. However, there are a few things you need to know. For example, CrossOver doesn't run ALL Windows apps. Some run better than others, and some won't run at all.

One of the most commonly asked questions on the internet is how to export audio files from GarageBand and use them on a variety of platforms. Save garageband as mp3 on ipad.

What's the best way to install Windows apps?

When trying to determine the best way to install a Windows app, consider the advantages and disadvantages of the three different ways to run Windows on a Mac — natively, via VM or via CrossOver:

How to install Windows apps on your Mac using CrossOver

If you want to install Windows apps on your Mac without all the overhead associated with Windows, follow these steps.

  1. Navigate to CodeWeavers and download CrossOver.
  2. Go to your Downloads folder and locate the Zip file you downloaded. Double Click it to open it. Archive Utility will Open it up and decompress the contents of the archive.

  3. Double click the CrossOver.app in your Downloads folder. It will offer to move itself to your Applications folder.

  4. CrossOver will start for the first time. When it does, it's going to ask you how you want it to run. By default, it runs in trial mode. However, you also enter in your registration information or buy a license right from this page.

  5. From the screen that appears, click the Install a Windows Application button.

  6. Type the name of the application you want to run. CrossOver will search its database and display appropriate matches.

  7. Click on the application you want to run. CrossOver will display compatibility information on it from its database, telling you how likely and how well it will run.
  8. Click the Continue button.

  9. Select an installer source.
  10. Click the Choose Installer File. A Finder window will slide down over the app and allow you to navigate to where you have the installation file stored.
  11. Select the app.
  12. Click the Use this installer button. You'll return to the Select an Installer Source screen.
  13. Click the Continue button. Remember: CrossOver will not find and download the software you want to run for you. You actually have to have the installation file for the software you want to run.

  14. Select a bottle.

What are bottles?

CrossOver is powered by the Wine Project. As such, all Windows apps are installed in 'containers' called bottles (get it?). When you install an application for the first time, CrossOver will create a bottle and automatically place your application in it. When you install new applications, CrossOver will also give you hints about which apps can work and play well in the same bottle. If your apps can be installed in the same bottle, putting them together will save some space. If they can't, CrossOver will tell you and suggest creating a new bottle. It will also suggest a name for it. Keep the suggestion or give the bottle a name of your own choice.

  1. Click the Continue button.

  2. You'll be taken to the Ready to Install screen. CrossOver will give you a summary of what it's installing, where it will install it from, and the name of the bottle where it will install it. CrossOver will also install any needed support software (such as .NET Framework, or the link).
  3. Click the Install button.

  4. The software will install. CrossOver displays a progress screen where it will run through not only the creation of the bottle, but it will download any needed support software, and then run the installer you chose. Once the installation process completes, you should be ready to run your software.

  5. Click Done. The Installation process will close.
  6. Click the CrossOver icon in the Dock. CrossOver's Collections screen will appear, listing all the bottles you have installed on your Mac.
  7. Find the bottle you just created and run your software.

Running Windows and Windows apps on a Mac can be challenging. Finding the right method for you and your needs can be equally as challenging; however, if you think about it, there are a number of ways to run Windows on a Mac.

Some are expensive. Some aren't.

Some take time and are complicated. Others aren't.

CrossOver isn't just easy to use, it's affordable. For less than 1/4 the price of Windows plus the price of the application you need to run, you can run it on your Mac. For the odd app out, this is a total no-brainer; and it's fairly easy to do. If you want to make sure your app works with CrossOver before you give it a shot, you can always search for it on their website.

Applications :: Crossover And .Iso Files - Cannot Install Windows Vista On Bootcamp Anymore

Mar 24, 2010

when I lost my entire collection of PC games, I've gone through the process of making a .iso file of all of the games I've purchased. I have a few games in .iso files sitting on my mac desktop. For some reason, I cannot install Windows Vista on bootcamp anymore, as whenever I try to start up, I get an error saying something like the file 'Wmilib' is missing or something, and I can't repair it using the startup disk no matter what. Which leads me to crossovers. I spent my money on it, and am hoping I didn't waste it. Whenever I tell Crossover to load from my mounted .iso file, and hit the 'proceed' button, it takes me to the top drop-down menu, where it asks me to select a program to install.
The only problem is that I want to install from my mounted .iso file, and not from the list of supported programs, which is stupid. I've also tried just directly opening the 'Setup.exe' file right with Crossover, and that still does nothing, which is very frustrating. Is it even possible to install games on crossover using a .iso file? And if so, what am I doing wrong, that whenever I hit 'proceed' button it takes me right to the list of supported software and WON'T LET ME INSTALL without choosing one?

Applications :: TF2 On Steam Mac Not On Par With Bootcamp?

Sep 26, 2010

Has anyone played Team Fortress 2 on Steam for Mac? I just installed it today on my MBP (config is in my siggy), but I'm pretty disappointed because it's obviously not as smooth and fast as in my Bootcamp.I turned most of my settings to at least Med (and some to Low), turned off Antialiasing, but kept resolution of 1440x900, yet it's still laggy/choppy esp. when there's more people involved.. (it was fine in Bootcamp on even better settings).I get like 20-25 fps in OS X, which pretty much sucks

Applications :: How Can Use Mac Steam Instead Of Bootcamp?

May 10, 2010

After my experience with the Starcraft II demo I have to say I'm hesitant to use the Mac Steam and just stick with bootcamp. Because of DirectX, games just seem to run better on my Windows side. Anyone planning on scrapping Windows for the Mac Steam client? It's nice to see more games coming to Mac but they still seem crippled by OpenGL.

Applications :: Transferring Portal (Steam) From A Mac To A PC?

I know you can transfer games from PC to PC, but I downloaded Portal on my Mac. I don't have constant internet access on my PC, so I don't want to download it there, but I can at least log in long enough to get it set to offline mode.
Question is, can I transfer the Mac version of Portal to the PC version of Steam?
Hope so. I'd like to play it with everything maxed out.

Windows On Mac :: Running MSN Using WINE / CrossOver?

Jan 6, 2010

I've been meaning to sign up for ages but only now am I getting around to it.Anyway, here is my question.I have been running Linux for quite some time, and am fairly adept at using terminal, WINE, etc. As with most people, I still cannot completely avoid Windows (Borderlands is addictive ok?) and I still use MSN, seeing as 95% of the people I know use it, not Yahoo messenger, AIM or Skype. Which is a nuisance for me, because while I like Adium, it really does suck compared to the real MSN client. And as usual, Microsoft pretends to be nice to Apple 'developing software for it' while making sure its products are crippled so people either need to run CrossOver / Wine or Parallels / VMware to use it inside OS X, or create a boot camp partition for Windows. This doesn't make me want to use Windows, it makes me even more glad I purchased a Macbook.Ranting aside, I find the Wine client for Mac kind of 2nd rate compared to the Linux version.Installing winetricks fails miserably, where on Linux it was simple. Also, the lack of a decent DMG file or package makes installing it that little bit more difficult, I've never had good luck at installing things via terminal, even on Linux. My question is, has anyone found a way to install Wine and Winetricks on Mac to install MSN messenger?-IMPORTANT NOTE-I have Adium installed, as well as Microsoft Messenger, aMSN and I've tried basically all the other clients out there. Do not suggest these as solutions. This is about how to install the OFFICIAL Windows Live Messenger on Mac OS X using Wine, CrossOver or another method.

You can transfer music from your Mac or Windows computer to your Android device using a USB cable. After transferring the music to your device, you can automatically play it with djay for Android. Djay pro transfer license from ipad to computer. Depending on which apps user data you want to transfer, open the corresponding folder (djay 2 or djay Pro). In the corresponding folder, copy the djay Media Library file. Go back to 'On My iPad' and open the djay for iOS folder. Paste the djay Media Library and Replace the original djay Media Library file in the djay for iOS folder.

Run Windows Game On Mac

There is lots of coverage regarding how to install software on crossover 8.0, but there is nothing that I can find regarding programs that require you simply to run them, without installation. I try and click them, and for less than a second, an image bounces above the crossover icon, but then it stops.
